Bonus Options and Bankroll Management in Blackjack

Playing Blackjack online is virtually the same as playing in a land-based casino; the concept is the same and the goal is the same. The only differences are that you can play at your leisure when you’re playing online and the Payouts are better on the Net.

You are dealt cards from a shoe containing 6 – 8 decks of cards. Table limits (the least amount you can bet) may be as low as $1 or as high as $500 or even $1,000. This all depends on which table you’re playing. Bets are placed using chips which have different denominations. Once your bet is placed, you must select the “Deal” button so that you can be issued your cards. This is officially when the game begins and it is not possible to change your bet amount after this. You can, however, increase your bet amount by using features such as Double Down, Insurance, and Split. Insurance is a sucker bet – never take Insurance! We’ll explain why further on.

The object of Blackjack online is to get 21 or as close to 21 as possible without going over. All the cards have values and these values are used to determine the card total. Cards 2 to 10 are counted at face value. So, a card showing 2, is counted as 2 points, while a card showing 3 is counted as 3 points and so on. Face Cards – Jacks, Queens, and Kings are counted as 10 points. Aces have 2 values – either 1 point or 11 points, depending on which one makes a winning hand. If you get an Ace and a 10 valued card on the first deal, you have an authentic Blackjack Hand. This is sometimes called a Natural 21 or more commonly Blackjack. If you have more than 2 cards but your total is equivalent to 21, then you still win but the hand is not referred to as “Blackjack”.

To get more cards, if you are not happy with the initial cards you were dealt, you simply press the “Hit” button. In a live Blackjack game, a Player who wants more cards would either signal to the Dealer by scraping his cards on the table directly in front of him or by saying “Hit”. If you do not wish to receive any more cards, you press the “Stand” button. The equivalent of this in a land-based casino is waving your hand over the cards you were dealt. If you have 2 similar cards, you can opt to “Split” them, which means that you separate them making them into 2 playable hands. This is one way to increase your bet. If your hand total is less than that of the Dealer, you lose. If the total of the cards you are dealt exceed 21, you “Bust”, another term for going over the 21 mark.
